As I write this I feel the warm embrace of the sun outside my kitchen window, and I feel a sense of calm. It still amazes me how responsive we are to our surroundings, whether it be reactions from friends, a completed agenda, or just a good cup of coffee in the midst of the sun’s warmth. We are designed with this dialogue in mind; the internal self and the external world at play.
I love helping people with this dialogue. How we interpret life and respond in our setting, while also adapting to changes as they come. Out of this is where my ‘3 Big Questions’ were born. How do I understand my place in work? school? social groups? What do I see from them, and what are they looking for in me?
In the middle is the spot where we find a form of contentment. Most of what I talk about on the blog is related to work, mainly because this is such a large portion of life for us. We will end up spending more time on ‘work’ than anything else in this lifetime, so it is pretty important to be in a spot where the 3 questions line up.
There are plenty of workplace assessments, metrics, how-to’s out there, but these are the 3 things I keep coming back to. And people respond knowingly when asked. That is important.
So, if you would like to take a few minutes and read the blog series on these questions, here are the links:
The original introduction: https://leadfreely.ca/2020/10/14/3-tough-questions/
Purpose: Do you know why you do what you do? https://leadfreely.ca/2021/06/16/are-you-staying-on-purpose/
Joy: Do you find joy in what you do?
Care: Do you feel loved in your setting?
There you have it! If you have any questions or insights about this list, I’d love to hear from you. My hope is to start using this more and more intentionally as part of my helping others through assessments, listening sessions, and coaching. If you would like to be part of working through any of this material, or you know someone who could benefit, just let me know.
